Hitachi Zosen Inova AG ("HZI", Switzerland), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Zosen Corporation, that designs, constructs, and maintains energy-from-waste ("EfW") plants, has received an order for the design, construction, and operation and maintenance work for 25 years of an EfW plant from Westfield Energy Recovery Limited, a special purpose company established by Brockwell Energy Ltd. (UK), which develops renewable energy projects mainly in Scotland, UK. This is the first order for operation and maintenance work in UK.

Scotland aims for sustainable waste management, with a clear recycling target and, ensuring that non-recyclable waste does not end up in landfill as well as reduction of CO2 emissions.
The project is to build a new EfW power plant on the former Westfield coal site near Kinglassie in the county of Fife in central Scotland, UK. The plant will be equipped with the latest systems, including flue gas cleaning system, to meet the requirements of strict emission regulations.
Once the plant goes into operation, up to 240,000 tons of general waste will be processed annually, and the generated electricity will contribute to the supply of base load energy. In addition, HZI will be entrusted with operation and maintenance work for 25 years after the facility is completed.

Our Group has delivered approximately 1,000 waste treatment plants in Japan and overseas, and this is the 16th order received in the United Kingdom and Ireland, which Our Group position as important markets. Through sanitary waste treatment and clean energy technology, Our Group will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted at the United Nations Summit and realizing a sound material-cycle society.
