Order received for Energy from Waste plant in India

Hitachi Zosen India Private Limited (President: Tomonori Terai, hereafter HZIND), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Zosen Corporation and located in Gurgaon, Haryana, India, which provides design, engineering, supply and construction for energy from waste (EfW) plant has received an order from KPC Gas Power Corporation Limited (KPCGPCL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd for a construction of an EfW plant. With this project, HZIND has started executing its second EfW project in India, after the Jabalpur's project (1x600 ton per day (TPD) - 11.5 MW).

This project is to construct a new EfW plant at Bidadi, Ramnagar District in the city of Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka state. This project is the first of its kind in the state of Karnataka. The honorable Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka has inaugurated virtually this project to start the project works. HZIND has submitted a joint bid by forming the consortium with ISGEC Heavy Engineering Limited and received the order, for which HZIND undertakes design, engineering, supply and supervision of the critical equipment like Grab Crane, Grate and Ram feeder, Boiler and FGT system.

The plant will consume 600 TPD of segregated waste / Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) to generate 11.5 MW of electricity per hour, connecting to the nearest Grid. KPCL has entered into an agreement with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the municipal corporation which is responsible for infrastructural assets of Bangalore area, to collect, transport and segregate 25% of the city's solid waste generation to arrange the required waste quantity of 600 TPD on daily basis to the EfW plant. As more than a half of the solid waste generated in the state has been landfilled and untreated, the construction of the plant is expected to improve the environment and contribute to effective energy production to the city of Bengaluru. In India, the "Smart City Mission" plan has been announced, and waste treatment facilities are one of the necessary infrastructures, and continuous plant construction is expected in the future. HZIND is implementing this project in compliance with the latest Solid Waste Management Rules of India (SWM Rules 2016).
