Order received for Energy from Waste plant in UK

Dec 10, 2020

Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Zosen Corporation, specialized in the design, construction, and services for Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plants, has received an order from a British major energy group SSE for construction of a new Energy from Waste plant near London (stoker type incinerator: 480,000 t/a, power generation output: 49.9MW).

The contract has been signed between HZI and a special purpose company jointly established by SSE Thermal and Copenhagen Infrastructure IV, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
The new plant will be constructed on SSE's site on the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, approximately 33 km west of central London where parts of a former plant have been decommissioned and demolished.
The completion of the plant is scheduled in 2024. After going in full operation, the plant will process around 480,000 tons of residual waste from the Greater London Area per year, and will cover the annual power consumption equivalent to approximately 100,000 households. In addition, it is expected to offset more than 147,000 tons of CO2 is expected.

The waste incineration power generation, which is our group's specialty, is one of the clean energies and can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emission. In addition, demand for EfW plants is increasing in countries such as UK, East Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and other countries where wastes have been mainly treated with landfills due to growing environmental awareness and increasing waste treatment volume by economic development.
Providing the sanitary treatment of wastes and the clean energy, our Group will actively work to achieve SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) set by the United Nations General Assembly and resolve global environmental issues.
