Hitachi Zosen receives an order for a large-scale fiber filtration system for combined sewage system overflow(CSO) in China: Our first order intake of a CSO fiber filtration system overseas
Sep 28, 2020
Hitachi Zosen receives an order from the China National Electric Apparatus Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CEI) for a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) fiber filtration system for a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Changsha City, China, our first order intake of a CSO fiber filtration system overseas.
Its treatment capacity is 0.5 million m3/day, which is the largest in China and Japan (according to our survey).
In the combined sewerage system, wastewater and rainwater are processed by the same drainpipe, therefore during rainfall some of wastewater mixed with rainwater without treatment flow into rivers.
As a result, pollutants contained in untreated sewage flow out, which causes water pollution and deterioration of water quality in public water bodies.
In addition, as many integrated sewerage systems are located in urbanized areas of major cities, due to the limited lands availability, it is often difficult to renovate or construct treatment facilities.
In China, there also have been frequently unexpected strong rain due to climate change in recent years, and is expected to improve the quality of water in public water areas. Under such circumstances, the Chinese government is tightening the water quality standards for sewage treatment and developing facilities in local cities.
Our company, in collaboration with universities and research institutes in China, is conducting joint research and demonstration trials of CSO fiber filtration systems at WWTP. This time, we received an order owing to a high recognition for our water treatment performance.
Compared to rainwater retention tanks with the same functions, our CSO fiber filtration system can be built on an area of one third for less than a half construction cost.
It can be installed at WWTP, pumping stations, etc., and can also be used by modifying existing stormwater retention tanks and primary sedimentation tanks.
Water-related Business and Initiatives in China
Our Group's core business domain is the provision of clean energy and water for realizing a sustainable, safe, and secure society.
Our water-related business is engaged in planning, design, construct, maintenance and operation of sea water desalination plants, water supply facilities that supply household water, and wastewater treatment facilities that purify and recycle sewage and industrial wastewater discharged from cities.
In China, we conducted a joint research with a Chinese research institute taking an opportunity of a subsidy project of the Guangdong Ministry of China's Science and Technology Agency in the Marimo® sewage treatment system for advanced sewage treatment, and received multiple orders including a treatment system for 0.1 million m3 per day in Guangzhou City and others for several tens of thousands of cubic meters per day, which have been completed.
Our group will continue to contribute to safety and stable sewage treatment in the Chinese market by conducting demonstration tests at research institutions and universities, and collaborating with local partner companies.
