Order intake of the Turnkey EPC project of Energy-from-Waste plant in Leicestershire UK

Feb 14, 2020

Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Zosen Corporation specialized in the design, construction and service of Energy-from-waste plants (EfW) received a new order of stoker type incineration EfW plant at Newhurst Quarry in Leicestershire UK with waste throughput of 350,000 ton per annum and approximately 42 MW power output from the consortium of Covanta UK, a UK arm of major US waste management company, Biffa plc of UK and Green Investment Group.

In the United Kingdom, the EU Landfill Directive and UK government initiatives have led to a shift from landfill to incineration. This order intake represents 12th UK project for HZI since its first EfW plant order intake in the UK back in 2006. The total electric power generation of this plant corresponds to the annual power consumption of approximately 80,000 households.

Hitachi Zosen group has delivered approximately 1,000 EfW plants globally up until now domiciled mainly in Japan, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. We plan to contribute to the achievement of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through our EfW and waste management equipment construction and services.
