Construction of a Energy-from-Waste Plant (Ferrybridge 2)for the United Kingdom completed.
Dec 20, 2019
Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Zosen Corporation, that designs, constructs, and provides services to Energy-from-Waste(EfW) plants, has completed and handed over an EfW plant (stoker type: 650,000 tons/year (2 Lines), power output: more than 68MW), to the special-purpose company owned by Multifuel Energy Limited of a joint venture with SSE plc and Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. (United States).
This new plant is located at the fomer Ferrybridge Power stations, owned by SSE in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, and SPC conducts a refuse incineration power generation project. Another EfW plant built by HZI(650,000tons/year(2 Lines), More than 68MW) has been under operating steadily since 2015. The total power output of both is more than 136MW, enabling approximately 330,000 households to be supplied with electricity.
Until now, except for some parts of Japan and Europe, the majority of wastes are landfilled in the world. However, due to increasing environmental awareness and tightened regulations, demand for EfW plants has been increasing in the United Kingdom, Russia, Eastern Europe, and other countries. The refuse incineration power plant is called the Energy from Waste plant. Hitachi Zosen Group intends to actively contribute to achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted by the United Nations and actions to global environmental problems by promoting the use of the refuse incineration power plant.
